How to Change a Drum Head
Live Action Instructional Video
November 2024
Description
This instructional video was developed for beginning drummers of all ages seeking to master the essential skill of changing and tuning a snare drum batter head.
Built using Reverse Design principles, the video opens with a live performance mistake—a broken snare head—and works backward through the step-by-step solution. Andragogical strategies shape the structure by linking each procedural step to real-world musical needs, promoting immediate application of skills. The instructional approach also draws on Cognitive Apprenticeship by modeling expert behaviors and explaining thought processes aloud, while the sequence is broken into manageable, clearly chunked steps to support ease of learning.
This project demonstrates my ability to design and produce live-action instructional media that emphasizes real-world application, expert modeling, and procedural fluency.
